Membership of Manchester Statistical Society

Welcome! Our members all have one thing in common; a curiosity about current social and economic issues. This is reflected in the recent programme topics that cover everything from the state of farming to health reform; from terrorism to prisons; from monetary policy to the supply of credit; from development in the North-West to the future of manufacturing – a wide range of key policy issues.

Members come from a variety of backgrounds the professions, business, academics and students. The diversity of membership only adds to the liveliness of the debate. Most members are local, but some travel formidable distances to attend the regular meetings.

After each meeting, the speaker is entertained to dinner by the Statistical Dinner Club, where further off-the-record discussion takes place. Many members and guests find the dinner with its informal discussion a most enjoyable part of the evening. It is also a chance to meet other members from a wide variety of backgrounds.

Meetings usually take place in the Cathedral Visitor Centre during the winter months. This is not only an ideal location for the evening meetings, it is also easy to reach by public transport and has its own car parking facilities.

If you would like to see what a meeting is like or have any other enquiries, please e-mail the membership secretary. Jonathan Aylen, on . We would be delighted to invite you along and welcome you to the Society.

Membership rates are very reasonable and include printed copies of papers read to the Society which are posted out to you. Ordinary membership is £30 a year; younger and student members pay £10 a year and retired members £20. Corporate membership is also available at £100 per year. There is also joint membership for those sharing a mailing address. Unfortunately there is a charge for the splendid dinner!
